English Summary/英文概要： SO THIS IS PERMANENCE will consist of facsimile reproductions of Ian Curtis’s written workings towards each of his songs: his notebook musings, poetry, draft lyrics, ideas...all of his workings towards all 40 songs. We have brought Jon Savage on board to edit and curate the project because we know he’s the best person to create something wonderful - an gorgeous art book showcasing the inner workings of Ian Curtis’s song-writing mind. It’s not a journal; the text (aside from Deborah Curtis’s introduction) will not be prose. But 99% of it will be material never seen before, interspersed with the printed lyrics, and only now available for Faber to publish at the express wish of Deborah Curtis. Ian Curtis and Joy Division have hugely dedicated fans worldwide, and this is set to be an extremely special book.

Ian Curtis was born in Stretford, Lancashire and grew up in Macclesfield. Joy Division released two seminal post-punk albums: Unknown Pleasures (1979) and Closer (1980). Jon Savage is the author of England’s Dreaming: Sex Pistols and Punk Rock and Teenage: The Creation of Youth, 1875 - 1945. He has written sleeve notes for Wire, St. Etienne and the Pet Shop Boys, among others. Deborah Curtis is the author of Touching from a Distance: Ian Curtis and Joy Division.
