He has travelled widely and lived in Japan, Canada and the Czech Republic. His first novel, THE FOUR STAGES of CRUELTY was a PW Book of the Year and was hailed as: “the reading equivalent of peeking through your fingers” by The New York Times and “[An] astonishing debut...” by Kirkus (starred review). FLAGGED VICTOR, his second novel, is being published by HarperCollins Canada in the autumn this year.
